A Tree Grows on a Mountain: Gradual Progress
Gradual Progress 53 is composed of Sun, tree, wind and gently penetrating, resting on Ken, mountain, keeping still. It can be formed by interchanging the 3rd and 4th lines of Standstill 12 and thus indicates a step from chaos to order. It also symbolizes marriage and comes with good fortune -- unlike in the next hexagram Marrying Maiden where marriage is also indicated but comes without societies blessings. Gradual Progress discusses the means by which we find our place in the world. Without changing lines it asks us to examine our actions in light of the stability they bring to our lives. I believe it also means to be very conscientious and cautious -- move as slowly as a tree grows -- there will be progress but it might be almost imperceptible.
